Pregnant woman falls from moving car as violent repeat offender jailed

A violent repeat offender has been jailed after his six-month pregnant partner fell from a moving car during an argument at a Devon caravan park.

Tyson Price, 34, of Addlestone, Surrey, admitted battery, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and possession of cannabis at Exeter Crown Court. He was jailed for 13 months and banned from driving for three years.

The incident happened at Hill Pond Caravan Park in Clyst St Mary on April 10 while the couple were on holiday.

The court heard Price was driving a Range Rover despite being disqualified when his pregnant partner fell from the moving vehicle. CCTV showed the woman, who was six months pregnant, falling from the car before Price drove away without stopping.

Although there was no evidence that Price deliberately pushed her, he admitted battery on the basis that she fell from the vehicle and he did nothing to prevent it.

The victim suffered cuts, bruising and a black eye but did not go to hospital and later said she could still feel her unborn baby kicking.

A security guard also witnessed the couple shouting at each other before seeing Price drive into a caravan, causing damage.

Police arrested Price later that evening and found a small amount of cannabis.

Judge James Patrick said Price had a long history of offending and violence against partners.

“You have a bad record of offending and non-compliance with court orders,” the judge told him. “Drink has obviously been a problem for you.”

The judge added: “Your partner was expecting your child and you were driving when you shouldn’t have been. The footage shows she fell from the moving car. You pleaded to battery on the basis she fell out and you did nothing to prevent it and I’m prepared to sentence you on that basis.”

The court heard Price has 51 previous offences, many involving violence.
