Jon Russ / Jonathon Russell – Lowestoft

In June 2023, a woman from Lowestoft tragically took her own life. At the time, Russell was already on bail for assaulting her. His history of violence had previously been disclosed under Clare’s Law (the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme).

Concerns had been raised to police and social services by those close to her, warning that he posed a serious risk. Those referrals were closed. After her death, the assault investigation was also closed within days.

At the inquest, Russell admitted he had told her to “kill yourself.” Evidence from her phone showed continued abusive messages. The coroner concluded that the relationship was a significant contributory factor in her death.

Despite this, no further criminal investigation has taken place.

Since we shared our original post, multiple women have now contacted us describing the same pattern of behaviour, physical abuse, emotional and verbal abuse, coercive control, stalking, harassment and threats of violence. These accounts relate to both before and after the 2023 case.

Most disturbingly, several women independently report that he repeatedly told them to take their own lives during their relationships with him.

When separate women describe the same conduct, the same language, the same intimidation, that is not coincidence. That is a pattern.

We are now publicly calling on Suffolk Police to review and reopen this case in light of the consistent and repeated allegations that continue to emerge.

This is about awareness. It is about accountability. And it is about preventing further harm.
