2025 – Man stamped on partner’s head in Christmas Day domestic attack
A man has been jailed after carrying out a violent domestic assault on his partner on Christmas Day, during which he stamped on her head and threatened to kill her.
The attack took place at a property in Soham, near Ely, following a day of escalating verbal abuse fuelled by alcohol.
Peterborough Crown Court heard the defendant, 41, had been drinking heavily throughout the day and subjected his partner to repeated accusations of infidelity.
He also made a series of threats, telling a friend he wished she was dead and warning he would harm her.
At around 4pm, the situation turned violent.
The court heard he tackled the victim to the floor before stamping on her head while continuing to threaten to kill her.
The assault was only stopped when a friend intervened, allowing the victim to escape and contact police.
Officers attended the address shortly afterwards and an investigation was launched.
The court heard the incident formed part of a wider pattern of abusive behaviour.
Throughout the relationship, the defendant had been verbally abusive and controlling, creating an environment of fear.
The victim was left fearing for her life during the Christmas Day attack.
At Peterborough Crown Court, the defendant admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm as well as engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour.
The court was told the violence and threats had a significant impact, leaving lasting emotional harm.
He was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
Following the case, police said the attack involved sustained threats and violence that left the victim fearing serious harm.
They also highlighted the seriousness of coercive and controlling behaviour, stressing that domestic abuse is not limited to physical violence but can involve ongoing psychological harm.
