Man jailed after assaulting former partner and breaching court order
A Flintshire man has been jailed after admitting assaulting and falsely imprisoning his former partner, as well as repeatedly breaching a non-molestation order.
Dominic Connor Fullerty Ellis, 22, of Linden Court, Linden Avenue, Connah’s Quay, appeared before Caernarfon Crown Court after pleading guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, false imprisonment, breaching a non-molestation order and breaching a suspended sentence order
The court heard the offences occurred after Ellis confronted his former partner at his home following an argument. During the incident, he repeatedly assaulted her by punching, kicking, choking and strangling her before preventing her from leaving the property.
When she attempted to escape by climbing over a fence, Ellis dragged her back into the property, causing further injury. The court also heard that the couple’s 11-month-old daughter was present during the incident.
Judge Timothy Petts said Ellis’s actions amounted to a sustained and controlling assault. Although he had previously been given an opportunity to remain in the community under a suspended sentence imposed for robbery, he committed further offences within days, putting him in breach of that order.
While on remand in prison, Ellis repeatedly breached a non-molestation order by contacting his former partner on numerous occasions. The court heard he used aggressive and offensive language in an attempt to control and intimidate her, including making contact on Christmas Day despite being prohibited from doing so.
In mitigation, the court heard Ellis was young, had complied with prison rules and had made positive use of his time in custody.
Sentencing, Judge Petts said the offending had caused significant physical and psychological harm and demonstrated a continuing pattern of controlling behaviour. He imposed a total sentence of four years and one month in prison.
