Alleyway Predator — Man Jailed After Stalking Teenager for Months Before Grabbing Her

A man who repeatedly targeted a teenage girl in public before grabbing her in an alleyway has been jailed after a police investigation revealed months of stalking and the possession of indecent images of children.

Sabjan Burkazi, 30, from Tunstall in Stoke-on-Trent, has been sentenced to three years and four months in prison.

He appeared at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on 5 March after admitting multiple offences.

Burkazi pleaded guilty to stalking causing serious alarm or distress, engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, and three counts of making indecent images of children.

He had initially denied the offences but changed his plea shortly before his trial was due to begin.

The investigation began after an incident in August last year.

The teenage victim was walking through an alleyway in Tunstall when Burkazi approached her.

According to police, he grabbed the girl during the encounter.

The situation could have escalated further, but a member of the public intervened after noticing what was happening.

Burkazi fled the scene moments later.

The incident was reported to police and officers quickly began investigating.

Shortly afterwards, Burkazi was arrested at his home.

As detectives began examining the case, they discovered the alleyway incident was not isolated.

Officers from the public protection unit uncovered evidence that Burkazi had been targeting the same teenage girl for months before the attack.

During that time he repeatedly approached her in public places.

He attempted to obtain her phone number and social media details on multiple occasions.

The girl refused every time.

Police said the repeated contact caused her serious distress and fear.

During the investigation officers searched Burkazi’s mobile phone.

The examination revealed indecent images of children stored on the device.

This evidence strengthened the case against him and formed part of the charges brought before the court.

Investigators said the strength of the evidence gathered during the inquiry played a major role in Burkazi’s decision to change his plea to guilty before the trial.

At Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court he was sentenced to three years and four months in prison.

The judge also imposed several additional restrictions designed to protect the victim and prevent further offences.

Burkazi was given an indefinite restraining order banning him from contacting the victim.

He was also placed under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for five years.

In addition, he will remain on the Sex Offenders Register for the next ten years.

Detective Inspector Adam Goodger from Staffordshire Police’s child protection team said the offender’s behaviour had caused significant distress to the victim.

He praised the courage of the teenager for reporting the incidents and supporting the investigation.

Police said the case highlights the importance of public vigilance, noting that the intervention of a passer-by during the alleyway incident helped prevent further harm.

Authorities say they remain committed to protecting children and ensuring offenders who target young people are brought before the courts.

For the teenage girl who endured months of unwanted attention and fear, the case has now resulted in the man responsible being sentenced and placed under long-term restrictions.
