Man convicted after sending death threats and handed restraining order
A man has been convicted after sending communications threatening death or serious harm, a court has confirmed.
Matthew Highfield, born 28 July 1981, appeared at Derby Magistrates’ Court on 9 December 2025, where he pleaded guilty to sending a communication threatening death or serious harm on 1 March 2025.
The offence was dealt with at the hearing, and Highfield was sentenced by magistrates.
Sentencing
The court imposed the following penalties:
• A 12-month supervised Community Order
• 14 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement (RAR) days
• A restraining order prohibiting Matthew Highfield from contacting the victim, directly or indirectly
• The order remains in force until 8 December 2027
• A £60 fine
• £199 in court costs
The court warned that breaching the restraining order is a criminal offence, punishable by up to five years’ imprisonment.
Highfield retains the right to appeal the sentence within 21 days, although such appeals are uncommon.
The case was concluded following his guilty plea.
