DEBENHAM MAN JAILED FOR 20 YEARS FOR ABUSING YOUNG CHILDREN
A man who abused girls as young as five years old and “tainted” their childhoods has been told he will spend the next 20 years behind bars.
Luke Richardson, 33, abused his victims over the course of more than a decade beginning when he was in his late teens.
Judge Richard Kelly gave details of the abuse suffered by the two victims before Ipswich Crown Court where he jailed Richardson on Friday.
One victim recalled the abuse beginning when she was aged between five and six. Richardson would make it seem like a “game” which ended when the victim kissed him on the lips.
He would also rub his genitalia on her face, with this happening when she was aged between nine and 10.
The abuse continued into her teenage years, becoming more extreme.
Judge Kelly said Richardson “groomed” the victim and normalised sexualised behaviour around her. Richardson was “infatuated” with the victim, Judge Kelly said, becoming jealous of her partners as she grew older.
Feeling threatened, Richardson said he would kill himself. The victim did attempt suicide, feeling caught between death and the ongoing abuse she was suffering at Richardson’s hands, Judge Kelly said.
It is estimated Richardson began an “entrenched campaign” of abuse against the second victim when she was 11, the court heard.
Addressing Richardson, Judge Kelly described him as a “lonely and isolated” child who had few friends and spent much of his time confined to his bedroom playing video games.
He was raised in Stevenage and moved to Suffolk. He was living in Debenham when the abuse came to light.
One victim has described her childhood as “tainted” by Richardson’s abuse, with Judge Kelly saying that Richardson made sure to carry out the abuse “away from prying eyes”.
Richardson, formerly of Great Back Lane, Debenham, was convicted of 10 counts of assaulting a girl under 13 by penetration, seven counts of causing or inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity, six counts of rape, three counts of assaulting a girl under 13 by touching and one count of attempted rape.
In addition to his 20 years in custody, he will spend a further year on licence and will be subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.
