2022 – A Paignton man was convicted after downloading indecent images of children and was ordered to complete a sex offender treatment programme.
Lee Bennett, aged 34, of Kinghurst Drive, Paignton, was found to have dozens of indecent images of children on his phone after police carried out a warrant at his home in November 2020.
The court heard that some of the material fell into the most serious category, involving extreme abuse, with some victims believed to be as young as five or six years old.
Bennett initially denied having any sexual interest in children but later admitted three offences relating to making or downloading indecent images when he appeared before the court.
Despite the seriousness of the offences, he was not sent to prison. Instead, he was given an eight-month suspended sentence and ordered to complete the Horizon sex offender treatment programme.
