Mansfield man warned he faces jail after assaulting pregnant girlfriend

A Mansfield man has been warned he could face prison if he reoffends after assaulting his pregnant girlfriend during a series of incidents in the town.

Kurt Carter was returning home with the woman following a pregnancy scan when an argument broke out between them. During the dispute, Carter spat at her in the street, prosecutors told the court.

Later the same day at Mansfield Bus Station, the 22-year-old tapped the woman on the leg, leaving her with a minor injury.

Days later, members of the public on Epsom Street raised concerns after witnessing Carter shouting abuse at the woman during another confrontation. During the argument he also grabbed her by the collar, the court heard.

The incidents caused alarm among witnesses and highlighted a pattern of aggressive behaviour.

The court was told Carter already has a criminal record and has previously been convicted of domestic battery involving another partner. His most recent previous offence occurred in April 2022.

Magistrates warned Carter that if he commits further offences he is likely to face a custodial sentence.
