NORFOLK MAN SENT DEATH THREATS AFTER FAILED ONLINE ROMANCE

A failed online romance led to a Norfolk man sending a string of violent threats including threatening to kill, burn and skin his former partner.

The end of the long-distance internet relationship caused James Green, 25, to send 11 disturbing messages to the woman on December 18 last year.

Among them were threats and descriptions of extreme violence against both her and a new boyfriend, Norwich Magistrates Court was told.

One message read: “I only live to see you die, I’m going to make you suffer endlessly.”

In another he threatened: “Your next boyfriend will die at my hands. I will kill him and you will follow.”

While in others he accused her of being “emotionally draining”, “a liar” and said he hoped she would “burn to death” and that he would “peel the flesh from your bones”.

Prosecutors said the threats had caused “psychological harm” to the victim who lives in Sunderland.

Green, of Crossdale Street in Northrepps, near Cromer, previously pleaded guilty in June to harassment and two unrelated charges of assault against family members.

The court was told he had previously been convicted of four offences, receiving a 24 month community order after spending six months on remand in prison.

Lucy Brakewell, mitigating, said: “The relationship was over the internet. He did visit her but only once and there has been no contact with her since last December.”

After reading a pre-sentence report that detailed his mental health background, magistrates fined him £120 and imposed a 24 month community order ordering him to complete 150 unpaid work and 15 rehabilitation days.

They refused an application for a restraining order preventing further contact with the woman saying the distance between Norfolk and Sunderland and the lack of recent contact meant it was not “proportionate or necessary”.
