CPS drops child-sex case after defendant suffers brain injury linked to drug overdose

The Crown Prosecution Service has dropped a child-sex case against a Gateshead man after concerns were raised over his mental capacity following a brain injury reportedly caused by a drug overdose, despite the defendant claiming he was found “not guilty”

Court documents show that Callum Graylish appeared before Newcastle Crown Court in November 2025, where he denied three offences:

* Attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child
* Attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity
* Attempting to cause a child to watch a sexual act

A trial had been scheduled to begin in October 2026.

However, Child Online Safety Team later claimed the CPS decided to discontinue proceedings after Graylish suffered a brain injury linked to a drug overdose.

Graylish has since been telling people he was “found not guilty”, despite the case reportedly being discontinued rather than ending in an acquittal.

Graylish has 95 previous convictions and he had been communicating sexually with someone he believed to be a child before police became involved in an arranged meeting.

No conviction was secured in relation to the allegations and the case did not proceed to trial.
