A rapist who attacked a man in secluded woodland, threatened to kill him and stole his belongings has been jailed for 12 years.
Saleh Mahmud, 30, of Canterbury Street, Ashton-under-Lyne, was sentenced at Manchester Crown Court on November 4 after being found guilty of two counts of rape.
The survivor had met Mahmud during a night out in Manchester city centre on December 23, 2025.
The following day, they travelled to Oldham, where Mahmud led him into a secluded wooded area in Failsworth.
There, Mahmud raped him despite the man making it clear he did not consent.
Afterwards, Mahmud threatened to kill him and fled with his mobile phone and bank cards.
The survivor reported the attack to police and provided forensic samples. A DNA match identified Mahmud, who was arrested at his home on December 29.
Officers searching the property recovered five mobile phones, more than £3,300 in cash, snap bags containing white powder and three driving licences belonging to other people.
The discoveries also linked Mahmud to a separate robbery reported days earlier.
In that incident, another man had met Mahmud on a night out before returning with him to the man’s home. Mahmud stole his phone and wallet, assaulted him and fled.
Alongside the rape convictions, Mahmud admitted robbery, common assault, two counts of fraud, intentional strangulation and possession of criminal property.
Both survivors described the lasting damage in statements submitted to the court.
The man attacked in Failsworth said he now lives with anxiety, fear and a loss of confidence. The consequences have affected his relationships, working life and everyday activities.
The second survivor said the attack had shattered his trust in others and left him feeling unsafe inside his own home. A visible scar remains a daily reminder of the violence.
