MATTHEW JAMES – ESSEX

Matthew James, from Harlow, Essex, was sentenced to 24 months in prison following a domestic abuse case involving allegations of controlling and coercive behaviour, assault and threats to kill.

The abuse took place throughout 2021 and included repeated assaults, strangulation and psychological abuse. The victim was left with bruising across her body and was threatened with death if she reported the incidents to anyone.

James received a two-year prison sentence following prosecution proceedings.

James had previous involvement in other offences and that concerns had been raised about abuse towards other women both before and after the relationship.

Clare’s Law, officially known as the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme, which allows people to ask police whether a partner has a history of violent or abusive behaviour.
