THURSTON MAN KEVIN BRETT JAILED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES
A 65-year-old Suffolk man who sexually assaulted a schoolgirl and secretly photographed her in a house while she was having a shower has been jailed for 12 years.
Sentencing Kevin Brett, Judge Richard Kelly described him as a “manipulative liar” and said he had shown no remorse and “zero empathy” for the victim.
“Your behaviour has devastated her and has had a serious impact in her emotional well-being.
“You still denigrate her as a liar but it is you who is a manipulative liar,” added the judge. In an impact statement the victim accused Brett of stealing her innocence and ruining her life.
She said what he did to her had affected her ability to have relationships and had caused her to self-harm and have flashbacks.
Brett of Benton Road, Thurston, had denied voyeurism, three offences of sexual activity with a child, three offers causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and one offence of sexual assault.
The offences date back to 2018.
He was convicted of all offences after a trial in March and was remanded in custody until his sentencing hearing on Thursday.
The court heard he had previously pleaded guilty to having images of the girl on his phone.
These included a 15 minute video in the most serious level A category, 190 still images and 78 movies in category B and 293 still images in the least serious level C category.
The pictures were found on the phone after the device was seized by police following his arrest on suspicion of sexually assaulting the girl.
The jury heard that Brett had a camera app on his phone and when the device was analysed naked pictures of the girl were found on it.
Brett denied having any sexual contact with the alleged victim.
