Caerphilly man ‘humiliated’ woman after sharing intimate film

A Caerphilly man has been sentenced after admitting sharing an intimate image and video of a woman with the intention of causing her humiliation and distress.

Jordan Phillips, 28, of Birch Crescent, Cefn Hengoed, Caerphilly, pleaded guilty to the offence at Newport Magistrates’ Court.

Prosecutor Rob Simkins told the court Phillips’ actions had left the victim “terrified and humiliated”. The offence was committed on May 28 while Phillips was under the influence of alcohol.

The court heard Phillips shared an intimate photograph and video of the woman without her consent, intending to humiliate her.

Representing Phillips, Peter Tarr said his client was of previous good character and had shown remorse for his actions.

District Judge Sophie Toms sentenced Phillips to 26 weeks’ imprisonment, suspended for 12 months.

As part of the sentence, Phillips was ordered to complete 160 hours of unpaid work and a 10-day rehabilitation activity requirement.

The court also imposed a 90-day alcohol abstinence and monitoring requirement alongside a five-year restraining order, preventing Phillips from contacting the victim.

In addition, Phillips was ordered to pay a £154 victim surcharge and £85 in court costs.

The judge said the sentence reflected the seriousness of sharing intimate material without consent, an offence that can have a lasting impact on victims.
