Jack Woodman jailed after years of domestic abuse against former partner

Jack Woodman, of Bristol, was jailed after subjecting his former partner to years of violent physical and emotional abuse, much of it carried out in front of their two young children.

Woodman was convicted of one count of grievous bodily harm and two counts of actual bodily harm following a campaign of abuse that took place between 2017 and 2022.

The court heard his violence escalated over the years, beginning with controlling and abusive behaviour before progressing to hair pulling, punching and repeated assaults.

In November 2018, Woodman assaulted his partner so severely that he broke her jaw in two places. Rather than seeking help for her, he left her in pain and went out with friends. The victim later required surgery to repair her injuries.

In 2022, after the victim collected Woodman from a casino where he had lost a significant amount of money, he again turned his anger towards her. While she was driving, he struck her in the face with a phone and glasses case, saying he hoped he had broken her jaw again. He continued to verbally abuse her before pouring a drink over her.

The abuse, which continued over a five-year period, frequently took place in the presence of the couple’s two young children.

Woodman was sentenced at Bristol Crown Court to two years and six months’ imprisonment. He has since been released from custody.

He is the owner of Jack’s Cash, an independent jewellers based in Bedminster, Bristol.
