Greig Burns – Edinburgh

An Edinburgh woman has spoken about the devastating moment she discovered her boyfriend had been exchanging messages with an undercover police officer in which he described sexually abusing a child.

Miah Fox Kaur, 31, said she and her then-partner, Greig Burns, 38, were woken by Police Scotland officers on 7 May 2025, who arrived with a search warrant for their Edinburgh home. Officers searched the property, seized electronic devices, and held Miah under caution for around two and a half hours while Burns was arrested and taken into custody.

At the time, Miah believed Burns was innocent and said she was shocked by the allegations. The couple, who had met through Hinge in September 2024, had planned to visit Edinburgh Zoo that day.

Burns later admitted to Miah why he had been arrested. Initially, he claimed the messages were consensual roleplay between adults and insisted he had done nothing illegal. Miah said she supported him at first and encouraged him to seek therapy.

However, after later reading the messages herself, she said she realised they involved graphic discussions about the sexual assault of a child. She described feeling betrayed and ended the relationship in October 2025.

On 24 April 2026, at Edinburgh Sheriff Court, Burns pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by sending sexually explicit communications describing the sexual abuse of children and arranging to meet the person he believed he had been messaging, who was in fact an undercover officer. He was sentenced to a community payback order and ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work.

Reflecting on the case, Miah said Burns had shown remorse but believed his actions were inexcusable, adding that discussing the sexual abuse of a child was “not OK” regardless of the circumstances.
