Newton Aycliffe man gets 10-year ban from keeping dogs
A Newton Aycliffe man has been banned from owning dogs for 10 years after causing unnecessary suffering to two pets.
Gareth Stewart, 34, formerly of Langdale Place, Newton Aycliffe, appeared before Peterlee Magistrates’ Court on July 15.
The court heard that, between October 20 and December 3, 2025, Stewart failed to investigate and address the causes of poor bodily condition and weight loss in two dogs, called Billy and Rolo.
It was found that Stewart knew or ought reasonably to have known his actions would likely result in suffering.
Stewart pleaded guilty and the court imposed a 10-year ban on owning, keeping, or being involved in the care of dogs under Section 34 of the Animal Welfare Act 2006.
He was fined £388 and was ordered to pay a £155 surcharge to fund victim services and £50 in court costs.
