Chatham Man Jailed for Five Years After Series of Violent Domestic Abuse Attacks

Callum Thompson, from Chatham in Kent, has been sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to a series of serious domestic abuse offences including strangulation, actual bodily harm (ABH) and common assault.

The case was investigated by Kent Police and heard how the victim was subjected to repeated acts of violence during the relationship.

The court heard that Thompson strangled the victim on at least five separate occasions between May and July. Non-fatal strangulation is recognised as one of the most serious indicators of escalating domestic violence and carries a significant risk of future serious harm.

In a further incident on 18 July, Thompson carried out an assault causing actual bodily harm, where the victim was kicked to the back of the head, placed in a headlock and punched in the face while attending a flat to collect personal belongings.

A separate incident of common assault occurred on 22 July in a laundry room, forming part of the pattern of abuse that was later reported to police.

Following the investigation, Thompson pleaded guilty to the offences, and the court ultimately imposed a five-year custodial sentence.

Domestic abuse specialists warn that non-fatal strangulation is one of the strongest predictors of future lethal violence, and victims experiencing this form of abuse are strongly encouraged to seek support and report incidents.

Authorities continue to emphasise that domestic abuse will be taken seriously and offenders will be pursued through the criminal justice system.
