Man Jailed for Series of Violent and Sexual Offences

A man has been sentenced to more than five years in prison following convictions for a prolonged campaign of violent and sexual abuse, including strangulation, assault causing actual bodily harm, sexual assault by penetration, and criminal damage.

Mackenzie Marsden was sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court on 6 January 2026 after being convicted of multiple serious offences committed against a woman over an extended period.

The offences included repeated assaults occasioning actual bodily harm, multiple counts of assault by penetration under the Sexual Offences Act 2003, intentional strangulation under the Domestic Abuse Act 2021, common assault, and criminal damage to property.

The court heard that Marsden carried out repeated acts of violence, including physical assaults and strangulation, and caused significant injury. The offending also involved sexual violence and deliberate damage to property.

Marsden was sentenced to a total of five years and four months in custody and ordered to pay a court surcharge of £228.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed a long-term restraining order. The order prohibits Marsden from contacting the victim directly or indirectly by any means, including social media or third parties. He is also banned from attending any address where he knows, or ought reasonably to know, that the victim lives, works, studies, or may be present.

If an accidental encounter occurs, Marsden must immediately remove himself from the area. He is also prohibited from posting or uploading any content online that directly or indirectly refers to the victim.

The restraining order will remain in force until 5 January 2036.
