2025 – Swansea Man Sentenced to Four and a Half Years for Multiple Sexual Assaults

A Swansea man has been jailed after being convicted of a series of sexual assaults against two women.

Stewart Read, 71, of Gorseinon, was found guilty of nine counts of sexual assault against a female victim, having intentionally touched his victims on multiple occasions.

During sentencing, the court heard that Read’s behaviour was deliberate and repeated, showing a complete disregard for his victims’ consent and wellbeing. He had pleaded not guilty throughout the proceedings.

Detective Constable Sarah Cook of South Wales Police described Read as “an incredibly dangerous man” and praised the courage of the victims:

“Stewart Read repeatedly laid his hands on women in a sexual manner without their consent. He obviously derived a sick pleasure from his actions, and his not guilty pleas show there is no remorse. It is absolutely right that he now spends multiple years in prison. The victims have shown remarkable courage and resilience throughout this process, and we thank them for coming forward.”

Read was sentenced to four and a half years in prison. The conviction comes as part of South Wales Police’s ongoing commitment to supporting survivors of sexual abuse and holding offenders accountable.

Detective Cook added:

“We never underestimate how difficult it is for survivors of sexual abuse to speak out and report. Cases like this show that victims will be listened to, treated with dignity and respect, and supported throughout the judicial process. If you have been sexually abused, and you are not yet ready to report, please do not suffer in silence.”
