Nottingham Man Caught in Police Sting After Messaging Officers Posing as Underage Girls
A man from Nottingham has been convicted after being caught in a police sting operation in which he believed he was communicating online with two underage girls — who were, in fact, undercover police officers.
Robert Fletcher, also known as Bobby Fletcher, from the Spalding and Nottingham area, was arrested following an investigation by specialist officers targeting individuals attempting to contact minors online.
According to court reports, Fletcher engaged in a series of inappropriate online conversations, believing he was speaking to teenage girls. The messages were monitored and recorded by police, who later identified and traced him. When arrested, Fletcher admitted to sending the messages and was subsequently charged with child communication offences.
The case was heard at Nottingham Crown Court, where the judge emphasised the importance of undercover operations in protecting children from online harm. Fletcher was placed on the Sex Offenders Register and became subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) restricting his online activity and contact with minors.
Authorities have described him as posing a risk to children and have urged anyone with concerns about individuals behaving inappropriately online to report it to police or Crimestoppers.
The case serves as a reminder of the continuing work of online child protection units to identify and apprehend offenders who seek to exploit children on the internet.
