Woman Suffers Two Miscarriages During Abusive Relationship with Controlling Partner

A woman endured two miscarriages while in a controlling and abusive relationship with her boyfriend, who subjected her to physical and emotional abuse.

Patrick McConnell, 34, was described by a judge as having “treated her like his possession”. During her first pregnancy, McConnell reportedly said he would “stress her out until she lost the baby” and added, “it will be funny”. Days later, the woman suffered a miscarriage, though the judge noted there was no evidence directly linking McConnell’s comments to the miscarriage.

Months later, during a second pregnancy, McConnell punched, headbutted, and banged her head against a wall. Neither he nor the woman knew she was pregnant at the time of the attack.

In a separate incident, McConnell was reported to have taken his ex-partner’s phone and sent sexually explicit videos of her to her family members, work colleagues, and sister, further demonstrating controlling and spiteful behaviour.

The case highlights the devastating impact of coercive control, physical abuse, and psychological manipulation in intimate relationships.
