Cassop Woman Fined for Online Abuse and Property Damage

Natasha Appleby, 25, of Luke Avenue, Cassop, was fined following an incident of online harassment and criminal damage that occurred in August 2020.

Magistrates heard that on 24 August 2020, Appleby sent a highly offensive message to another woman via Facebook Messenger. The message included derogatory and distressing language which left the victim emotionally impacted.

Later that same day, Appleby attended the victim’s home and caused criminal damage to a set of conservatory blinds.

  • Fined £40 for the abusive message
  • Ordered to pay £34 victim surcharge and £85 prosecution costs
  • Compensation of £80 for the damaged blinds

Magistrates stated that the sentence reflected the seriousness of harassment and property damage, and emphasized that abuse via social media will not be tolerated.
