BREAKING: Teen killer who murdered Sheffield schoolboy Harvey Willgoose named
The teenage boy who fatally stabbed 15-year-old Harvey Willgoose at a Sheffield school has been publicly named as Mohammed Umar Khan, after a judge ruled it was in the “interests of justice” to lift his anonymity.
Khan, also 15, stabbed Harvey in the heart with a hunting knife at All Saints Catholic High School on February 3, in front of classmates who fled “in fear and panic.”
Judge Mrs Justice Ellenbogen told Sheffield Crown Court:
“This was a serious crime … the public will wish to know the identities of those who commit such serious offences in seeking to understand how a child of that age can do so.”
She added that knife crime and the circumstances of the attack were of “significant public interest.”
Harvey’s mother, Caroline Willgoose, and sister Sophie had both called for Khan to be named, saying the decision was about justice and transparency.
During the trial, the court heard Khan had a disturbing fascination with weapons, including machetes, daggers, and baseball bats, and had brought a knife to school that day. His internet searches included “zombie killer knife” and “pocket knife.”
Khan was convicted of murder in August and will be sentenced later today.
Harvey’s family described the 15-year-old as a kind and caring boy who had expressed concern about knives being brought into school before his death.
💐 Harvey’s family continue to campaign against knife crime in his memory.
