A 66-year-old Caerphilly man has admitted attempting to engage in sexual communication with someone he believed was an underage child after being caught in an online sting operation.

Michael Jago, of New Road, Deri, was exposed after entering into explicit conversations with what he thought was a young girl. In reality, he had been communicating with a decoy account run by online child-protection volunteers. Once enough evidence had been gathered, the group alerted police, leading to Jago’s arrest.

Jago later appeared in court where he pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child. The messages he sent were described as predatory in nature, showing a clear sexual interest in a person he believed was underage.
