Man Given Suspended Sentence and 10-Year Register Order After Sexual Offence Against Child
Safeguarding laws designed to protect children and vulnerable people have been highlighted following the conviction of a man who received an 18-month suspended prison sentence and was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years after engaging in sexual activity with a minor.
The court heard that the offence involved inappropriate and unlawful sexual contact with a child, an offence considered serious due to the lasting harm such behaviour can cause. As part of the sentence, strict conditions were imposed to manage the risk he poses and to protect the public, particularly children.
The case has prompted renewed calls for greater public awareness of safeguarding tools available to families, parents, and those concerned about the safety of others.

Sarah’s Law – Child Sex Offender Disclosure Scheme
Sarah’s Law allows parents, guardians, and carers to formally ask police whether someone who has access to their child has a history of sexual offences involving children.
If police believe there is a risk, they can share relevant information to help keep a child safe. The scheme exists to prevent harm before it occurs and can be used where there are concerns about partners, neighbours, family members, or anyone in a position of trust around children.
Requests can be made confidentially through your local police force.
