π Summary
Marri Dugdale, now 41, from Spennymoor, was found guilty in 2024 of historical sexual offences against a young girl that occurred when Dugdale was 15 years old. The abuse involved indecent assault and indecency with a child, repeated over at least two occasions. At the time, the victim reported the abuse, but no legal action was taken due to the absence of medical examination and court attendance.
In 2020, the victim renewed her complaint as an adult, and Dugdale was eventually brought to justice. Prior to the trial, Dugdale made a false report to police in an attempt to discredit the victim β a desperate attempt to pervert the course of justice. She admitted to this charge shortly before the trial began.
The judge described her abuse as “a devastating impact” on the victimβs life, which led to long-term trauma, substance abuse, and mental health issues. Despite Dugdale’s relatively clean record since then, she was sentenced to four years imprisonment, including time for her attempt to derail the legal process. She is now banned for life from contacting the victim.
