📝 Case Summary:

Macauley Cummins, 26, of Cauldon Drive, Holme Hall, Chesterfield, launched a savage knife attack on his sleeping partner at her home in Brampton during the early hours of Sunday, July 3, 2022.

Using a serrated knife, he stabbed her 21 times — inflicting wounds to her back, neck, knee, and arms, and puncturing her lung. Despite her critical injuries, the victim managed to escape the house and was found in a nearby garden at Mayell Close by a neighbour around 12:30 AM, who then alerted emergency services.

Cummins fled the scene but was arrested approximately 45 minutes later when police stopped a vehicle in Holme Hall. He was taken into custody and charged the same day.

At Derby Crown Court on March 10, 2023, Cummins pleaded guilty to attempted murder. The judge sentenced him to 22 years in prison and issued an indefinite restraining order to protect the victim. The court heard the victim had been sleeping when the attack occurred, and her survival was described as “miraculous.”

The trauma of the attack left the victim with long-term physical and psychological damage. Her ability to live independently and feel safe has been severely impacted.
