🧾 Charges

  • Attempted Murder
  • Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) with Intent

📄 Summary

In 2018, Louis Morgan, then 34, violently attacked his partner Rhiannon Mills and her elderly neighbour Gwen Kaplan in a shocking episode of sustained brutality. After stamping on Miss Mills’ head in front of her home, Morgan smashed his way into Mrs Kaplan’s house, armed himself with two kitchen knives, and launched a vicious stabbing assault.

Miss Mills had sought help from Mrs Kaplan moments earlier after Morgan began behaving aggressively. As neighbours looked on in horror, Morgan beat Miss Mills while holding her young daughter under one arm. When Mrs Kaplan called him an “animal,” he broke into her home and stabbed her repeatedly in the head and face.

The injuries to both victims were severe. Police arriving on the scene found Mrs Kaplan “at death’s door.” The court recognised the neighbour as a Good Samaritan who was violently targeted for simply helping someone in need.

⚖️ Court Outcome

  • Sheffield Crown Court, 2018
  • Pleaded guilty to attempted murder and GBH with intent
  • Sentenced to 20 years in prison plus 5 years extended licence
