Chippenham Man Faces Custody Over Possession of Child Abuse Images
A man from Chippenham has admitted possessing a substantial collection of indecent images of children and is due to be sentenced at a higher court because of the seriousness of the material.
Lewis Walker, 31, appeared at Salisbury Magistrates’ Court on 10 December, where he entered guilty pleas to two charges relating to the possession of child abuse images. Prosecutors told the court that officers found 38 indecent photographs and images on devices linked to Walker. Of these, 16 were categorised at the most serious level (Category A), involving explicit sexual activity, and 22 were in the next category ( involving non-penetrative activity.)
The court heard the material had been downloaded between May and June 2024. Due to the severity and nature of the files, the case was referred upwards for sentencing at Salisbury Crown Court rather than being dealt with by the magistrates alone.
Walker was released on bail ahead of his Crown Court hearing, which is scheduled for 9 January. As part of conditions ordered by the magistrates, he was instructed to register as a sex offender within 72 hours; the duration of his registration will be decided at the higher court.
In cases involving sexual offending, individuals can request information under Sarah’s and Clare’s Law (the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme) if they have concerns about a partner’s past behaviour or history of harmful conduct.
Sarah’s Law – officially called the Child Sex Offender Disclosure Scheme (CSODS) – allows parents, carers, and guardians to ask police whether someone who has contact with their child has a history of sexual offences against children.
