Alloa Man Admits Killing Kitten and Abusing Partner in Horrific Domestic Violence Case
A man from Alloa has admitted torturing and killing a kitten during a violent attack that formed part of a sustained pattern of domestic abuse against his partner.
Lewis Aitken, 21, of Alloa, Clackmannanshire (FK10), pleaded guilty at Alloa Sheriff Court to causing unnecessary suffering to an animal resulting in its death and engaging in a course of abusive behaviour towards his former partner.

“I’ll show you animal cruelty”
Prosecutor Duncan MacKenzie told the court the incident took place on June 17, 2024, at the woman’s flat in Alloa. She discovered a 12-week-old kitten that Aitken had confined in a cupboard. When she released it, Aitken became enraged, telling her he had put the kitten there deliberately so that he could later “rescue” it and appear as a saviour.
When the woman called his actions “animal cruelty,” Aitken responded, “I’ll show you animal cruelty,” before violently attacking both her and the kitten. The court heard that he struck the animal repeatedly and assaulted his partner when she tried to intervene.
The woman described being choked and slapped, and said she was forced to watch as Aitken continued to assault the kitten, leaving it severely injured. He later killed the animal and disposed of the body.

“One of the most violent attacks on an animal”
A veterinary post-mortem found the kitten had suffered catastrophic injuries, including multiple fractures and severe internal trauma. The examining pathologist described it as “one of the most violent attacks on an animal” he had ever encountered.
The court heard that Aitken blamed his actions on mental health issues, though a psychiatric assessment later determined that he was fit to stand trial and did not meet the legal criteria for a plea of insanity.

Sentence deferred
Sheriff Euan Gosney deferred sentencing until October 29, 2025, to allow for further background and psychiatric reports.
Aitken has been banned immediately from owning, keeping, or being in charge of any animal, pending final sentencing.
