Rapist Got Woman Pregnant While She Was Unconscious
Thatto Heath, Liverpool — A 24-year-old man has been jailed after repeatedly raping a woman while she was unconscious, leaving her pregnant and later suffering a devastating miscarriage.
COURT HEARING
Lennox Smith, of Upland Road, Thatto Heath, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court where he admitted two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
Prosecutor Arthur Gibson said the victim had no memory of the assaults but grew suspicious after waking up to find physical evidence. When confronted, Smith confessed.
Weeks later, the woman learned she was pregnant. She later suffered a miscarriage and required hospital treatment.
VICTIM’S STATEMENT
“My whole life got destroyed. I had no control over my life or my body. I was disrespected to the highest levels. Even with support, I have never felt so alone and trapped in my own thoughts. My family tell me I am not the same person I used to be. I am trying to rebuild my life and put Lennox Smith in the past.”
SENTENCING
- Jail Term: 6 years and 9 months
- Restraining Order: Lifetime ban on contacting the victim
- Sex Offenders Register: Indefinite inclusion
Smith initially denied the charges but later changed his plea to guilty. His defence cited ADHD, dyslexia, anxiety, and depression — but the judge stated a lengthy sentence was justified due to the severity of the crimes.
POLICE RESPONSE
Detective Sergeant Bob Sandham praised the bravery of the victim and said:
“This has been a long and complex investigation, but thanks to the bravery of the victim we were able to secure justice. Violence of this kind will never be tolerated.”
Police urged other survivors of sexual violence to come forward, promising full support from specially trained officers.
