‘Twisted Ex’ Jailed for Sick Campaign of Harassment After Sending Intimate Videos of Ex to Her Family

A jealous ex who bombarded his former girlfriend with more than 800 phone calls in just two weeks and sent intimate videos of her to her friends and family has been jailed after a judge called his behaviour “a campaign of mental torture.”

Lee Mairs, 40, of Clapgate Crescent, Widnes, unleashed a terrifying three-month spree of harassment after the woman ended their relationship. Liverpool Crown Court heard he hacked her social-media accounts, stalked her at work, and even tried to smear her reputation by claiming she had a sexually transmitted infection.

Prosecutor Arthur Gibson told the court that between April and June 2022, Mairs called and texted his victim relentlessly, sometimes 20 times in two hours and using blocked or new numbers to get through.

When she finally went to police, Mairs brazenly rang her while she was giving a statement at the station. Officers answered and warned him to stop—but he didn’t.

Mairs was arrested and bailed on the condition he left the victim alone. Within days he breached that order, contacting one of her friends to pressure her into dropping the charges, telling her: “Tell her to stop f*ing about.”

The court heard Mairs then sent indecent videos of his ex to her friend and sister, and created fake social-media accounts to spread the footage.

He also stalked her workplace and sent vile messages about her to relatives and an ex-partner. The victim told the court the ordeal left her with panic attacks, sleepless nights and PTSD-like anxiety, describing it as “mental torture.”

“Every aspect of my life has been impacted,” she said. “I live life on the edge, fearing the videos will resurface. I never imagined my private moments would be shared online.”

Recorder David Knifton KC said Mairs had subjected the woman to “the most appalling and prolonged campaign of harassment and abuse,” adding:

“There were constant unwanted calls and visits—your conduct caused her and her family serious psychological distress.”

Mairs was sentenced to 37 months in prison and given a lifetime restraining order banning any contact with the victim.
