A man from Lincolnshire has been convicted of a sexual offence involving a child under the age of 13.

Kym Goody, 31, formerly of Bourne and Sutton Bridge, Lincolnshire, and later living on Elliott Road, March, Cambridgeshire, appeared at Lincoln Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to one offence of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity.

The court heard that between 18 June 2022 and 10 August 2022, Goody caused or encouraged the girl to kiss him on five separate occasions. The child’s identity is protected by law, but she attended court to witness Goody enter his guilty plea.

Following his admission, Goody was given a custodial sentence which was suspended for two years. As part of his sentence, he is required to comply with strict conditions and must register on the Sex Offenders’ Register for a period of ten years.

The case highlights the importance of safeguarding children and reporting inappropriate behaviour. Courts reiterated that offences involving children are treated with the utmost seriousness, even where a suspended sentence is imposed.

Public Safety and Claire’s Law

Under Claire’s Law (the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme), members of the public have the right to ask police whether a current or former partner has a history of violent or abusive behaviour. While primarily focused on domestic abuse, the scheme forms part of wider safeguarding measures designed to protect vulnerable individuals and prevent further harm.

Anyone with concerns about a person’s behaviour toward children, or who believes a child may be at risk, is urged to contact the police or local safeguarding services immediately.
