❌KIRSTY BARR – BARTON, NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE❌
Jailed for False Allegations – Manipulated System to Ruin Ex-Partner’s Life
Kirsty Barr, 24, from Barton in North Lincolnshire, has been jailed for three years and nine months after admitting to perverting the course of justice with false claims against her former partner, Ryan Kerrison.
Barr gained national attention by portraying Kerrison as a violent abuser, giving media interviews where she described him as a “monster” and claimed he had mentally and physically abused her. She repeatedly told police he had harassed, assaulted and threatened her, including allegations of a knife attack and a gun being held to her head.
🔹 False Claims and Police Response:
- Reported that Kerrison threw stones at her window, harassed her online, and breached a restraining order – resulting in him being remanded in custody for two months.
- Six months later, claimed he had chased her up the stairs, cut her with a knife, thrown her down the stairs and held a gun to her head – prompting a full firearms response.
- Kerrison was repeatedly arrested and even convicted by magistrates before the conviction was later quashed.
- Evidence later proved he could not have committed the offences Barr alleged.
🔹 Impact on the Victim:
Ch Supt Christine Wilson of Humberside Police said Kerrison “has been through the most excruciating and harrowing ordeal” as a result of Barr’s actions, losing his freedom, reputation, and time with his daughter.
“Ryan has had to watch everything he had vanish in the blink of an eye, being incarcerated for crimes he didn’t commit and unable to be with his daughter, all because his ex-partner decided she would manipulate the system to see Ryan suffer,” she said.
🔹 Court Outcome:
Barr admitted perverting the course of justice at Hull Crown Court and was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison.
🔹 Lessons and Warnings:
- Humberside Police stressed the importance of investigating all allegations thoroughly and effectively, recognising that men can also be victims of abuse and false accusations.
- Ch Supt Wilson warned: “Allegations of this nature when falsely made can have a detrimental impact on genuine victims coming forward.”
This case highlights the devastating impact false accusations can have, not only on the wrongly accused but also on genuine victims of domestic abuse.
