2022 – Scheming and vindictive woman lied to police about ex-husband’s threats to ‘blow her brains out’
Katherine Harvey made her ex-husband’s life “absolute hell” through obsessive, cruel and vengeful lies. She falsely told police that he had threatened to kill her, saying he would “blow her brains out”, which led to his traumatic arrest in front of his children and mother-in-law.
Harvey, 33, of Martin Street, Beverley, was found guilty at Hull Crown Court of perverting the course of justice and breaching a non-molestation order. Her actions included:
- Falsely reporting threats to the police
- Making a five-page false statement about abuse involving firearms
- Claiming to have a non-molestation order against her ex — when in fact, he had one against her
- Making malicious complaints to social services about child safety
Her ex-husband was arrested and detained for 15 hours before being cleared. His children were left traumatised, with a two-year-old rendered speechless for two days.
Judge Sophie McKone stated: “You became obsessed and determined to ensure that he suffered. What you did caused trauma to him and his family. Your behaviour was completely and utterly disproportionate, obsessive, cruel and vengeful.”
The judge added: “He describes what was happening to him as like having a terminal illness… and you didn’t seem to care.”
Despite no prior convictions, Harvey’s history included cautions for shoplifting. She was ultimately jailed for 2 years and 4 months and given an indefinite restraining order.
She now reportedly runs a business selling equestrian items imported from the Middle East and India.
