The victim finally fled to her mother’s home and reported the abuse on 19 June, detailing how the assaults began on 2 June when she discovered Ford exchanging inappropriate messages with another woman. He reacted by grabbing her hair, choking her until she couldn’t breathe, and pinning her to the wall.
On another occasion, he threw her to the floor, tried to trap her under a chair, and then assaulted her with that chair, leaving bruises and scratches. The violence escalated further when he headbutted her, punched her, threatened to bite her nose off, and kicked her while she was on the ground.
On 13 June, Ford attacked again — this time breaking a chair over her body and later burning its remains in the garden. His abuse left the victim with visible injuries and lasting trauma.
Shockingly, all of this occurred while two young children were present in the house. Though they may not have seen the attacks directly, the court acknowledged the serious emotional harm they may have suffered.
Ford attempted to deflect blame by claiming the victim was injured by her bra strap and suggesting she caused her own injuries. The judge rejected these claims, noting the repeated, escalating, and brutal nature of the assaults.
