❌ JOSEPH JOHN HILTON – CORNWALL ❌
Convicted child sex offender handed further 14-year prison term after historic abuse uncovered
A convicted child sex offender from Cornwall has received a new 14-year prison sentence after a court heard further evidence of repeated abuse he committed in the past.
Joseph John Hilton, 36, formerly of Bodmin and currently held at HMP Whatton in Nottinghamshire, returned to Truro Crown Court on April 17 for sentencing. A jury earlier this year found him guilty of:
• Three counts of rape of a child under 13, and
• One charge reflecting multiple incidents, indicating at least five additional offences.
Hilton denied all allegations throughout the trial but was unanimously convicted.
Historic abuse revealed
The court heard that Hilton subjected his young victim to at least eight separate incidents of rape, all of which he continues to deny. Detectives uncovered the historic offences during ongoing investigations connected to his previous conviction.
Already serving a decade for earlier offences
Hilton is already serving a 10-year prison sentence imposed in 2019. In that earlier case, he pleaded guilty to:
• Two counts of oral rape
• Two counts of sexual activity with a child
• Two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity
That abuse had taken place over the course of a year.
Judge: “No remorse shown”
During sentencing, the judge said Hilton had displayed no remorse for any of the offences. He was handed a 14-year term, which will be served concurrently with his existing sentence, significantly extending the period he will remain in custody.
