Man forced partner to eat cat litter before brutal assault that left her needing metal plates in her jaw

A Llanelli man with a record of violence has been jailed after a vicious attack on his girlfriend which a judge described as “sadistic” and “horrific beyond words.”

Jared Warlow, of Coleshill Terrace, Llanelli, admitted a charge of grievous bodily harm with intent following an incident in which he humiliated, beat and terrorised a woman he had only been in a relationship with for a matter of weeks.

Sustained attack

The court heard that Warlow subjected his partner to a string of degrading and violent acts during the same prolonged incident.

He forced her to eat cat litter, throttled and punched her, beat her with a belt, and threatened to kill her by forcing her head into a fish tank. At the height of the violence, he repeatedly struck her face, shattering her jaw.

She was left needing surgery to insert metal plates to rebuild her jaw, and faces lasting physical and psychological damage.

Afterwards, Warlow fled the scene and called a friend for a lift, but was later traced and arrested by police. In interview he denied responsibility, claiming his partner had attacked him first after he refused sex, and insisting he had acted in self-defence.

Victim’s statement

The woman said she would never forget the terror of realising that Warlow was not going to stop the beating. She described being “crippled with anxiety and depression” and said the humiliation of being forced to eat cat litter was “beyond words.”

She told the court she had been left humiliated, degraded and fearful, with the attack leaving her struggling to recover both physically and emotionally.

Judge’s remarks

Judge Geraint Walters said the case was one of the most disturbing he had ever encountered outside of a murder trial.

He told Warlow: “There is no more you could have done to her than you did. You subjected her to a sadistic ordeal of violence and humiliation. You are a violent man who routinely raises his fists to women. This was not a momentary loss of temper but a campaign of abuse.”

The judge said Warlow posed such a serious danger to women that only an extended sentence could protect the public.

Sentence

Warlow was handed an extended sentence of 16 years, made up of:
• 12 years in custody
• 4 years on licence

He will serve at least two-thirds of the prison term before the Parole Board will consider his release, and only if he is no longer considered a danger.
