Lancing Man Sentenced for Stalking and Sexual Offences

A man from Lancing has been sentenced to 18 years after being found guilty of multiple offences, including stalking and sexual offences against a young relative.

James Green, 37, of Brighton Road, Lancing, carried out a sustained campaign of harassment against a woman in her 30s, which included damaging property, theft, and intimidating behaviour. He also groomed a teenage relative, sending messages to manipulate and coerce her.

In August 2023, Green committed sexual offences against the teenager. While on bail, he continued inappropriate contact and sent numerous messages to the victim, attempting to influence her statements to authorities and exert control over her.

At Lewes Crown Court, Green was convicted of offences including:
• Sexual offences against a child
• Stalking causing serious alarm and distress
• Criminal damage
• Theft
• Attempting to pervert the course of justice

He was sentenced to 18 years, with 12 years in custody and six on extended licence. He was also issued a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order and restraining orders against both victims.

Detective Inspector Harry Doyle praised the victims’ courage and the police investigation, noting the importance of reporting abuse and offering support to victims.
