❌JAMES CANNING – ROTHERHAM❌
CONVICTED | James Canning, 30, previously of Askern, Doncaster, and now Kilnhurst, Mexborough, Rotherham – found with a neglected banned breed dog, who will now be put to sleep despite harming no one, and also kept a hamster in a cage with no food or fresh water.
Canning, who in 2015 was sentenced to five years in a young offenders’ institution for his part in an eight-hour tortuous attack on a 17-year-old girl and is also a convicted nonce, pleaded guilty to multiple animal welfare offences, as well as possession of a prohibited dog breed.
The court heard how, on May 2, 2024, Canning was found with a pitbull terrier. The unnamed dog was discovered in “an unsuitable living environment” without access to clean drinking water.
He faced further animal cruelty charges in relation to a pet hamster by keeping him in a cage with no food and a mouldy water bottle.
The dog was ordered to be destroyed, with the court citing potential harm to others and deeming Canning unfit to care for him.
Sentencing | ordered to pay £85 in costs and a £114 surcharge. Banned from keeping animals for three pitiful years.
