A man has been jailed after masturbating on a train while staring at a woman.
The woman noticed Igor Borges, 29, of Nether Street, Barnet, staring at her in a window reflection.
When she looked over and saw him masturbating, he continued. She dialled 999, and Borges put his finger to his lips, indicating not to tell anyone.
She left her seat and moved carriages to sit elsewhere. Borges followed her, apologising. As she walked through the train, she told other passengers what had happened.
They intervened and stopped Borges from following her. He left the train at West Croydon and the British Transport Police worked to track him down.
They found Borges already had a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) in place, which he breached in committing the offence that morning.
He was arrested at his home on Nether Street two weeks later.
His existing SHPO had been in place since August 2023 and prohibited him from making any direct or indirect approach to a female not known to him in a public place.
When he was arrested, he said it wasn’t him that committed the offence, and the officers had it wrong.
Later, during an interview, he claimed he thought he was alone when he masturbated on board the train. Due to the strong case against him built by BTP Detectives, Borges changed his original not guilty plea to guilty.
Borges was sentenced at Inner London Crown Court on Monday, February 2, and jailed for one year and eight months after pleading guilty to exposure and breaching his SHPO.
He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years and pay a victim surcharge.
