Ian Pritchard was jailed for 12 years after being convicted of a series of serious sexual and violent offences.

At Teesside Crown Court in July 2013, Pritchard, who was 19 at the time of the offences, was found guilty of 13 charges, including rape, sexual assault, sexual activity with a child, and assault. The court heard that he contacted his victims through social media, initially appearing charming and engaging before his behaviour escalated into extreme abuse.

During the trial, victims described being subjected to physical violence, emotional manipulation, and sexual attacks. One victim was assaulted while asleep, while another was punched, kicked, and branded with a heated cigarette lighter.

Sentencing Pritchard, the judge described him as “extremely devious and manipulative” and stated that he posed “a clear danger to any woman or girl.” The court was told that his behaviour showed a sustained pattern of coercion and violence.

As part of the sentence, Pritchard was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.

In a later case reported in 2022, Ian Pritchard, then aged 28 and of Water View, Middleton St George, appeared before the courts accused of further serious offences.

He was charged with one count of rape and two counts of engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour. The alleged offences were said to have taken place in 2019. Pritchard was due to stand trial at York Crown Court, where the case was scheduled to proceed.

The charges followed an investigation into allegations of sustained abusive behaviour within a relationship. Reporting at the time confirmed that the case related to coercive control as well as sexual violence.
