Cleator Moor Man Jailed for Armed Break-In at Ex-Partner’s Home

Ian Davidson, 31, from Cleator Moor, has been sentenced to three years in prison after breaking into his ex-partner’s home in the middle of the night while armed with an axe and a knife.

He appeared at Carlisle Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to multiple charges including:

  • Two breaches of a restraining order
  • Assault
  • Aggravated vehicle taking
  • Possession of two bladed articles

Despite being under an indefinite restraining order for previous assaults on the same woman, Davidson stole a car and drove to her home at 3:30am. He broke in through a window while carrying weapons.

He confronted the victim in her bedroom, demanded her phone, and during the encounter, she suffered a cut to her torso. She described feeling “petrified” and was later bombarded with nearly 50 unwanted messages from Davidson on social media.

Key Details:

  • Driven by obsessive jealousy
  • Long-standing issues with alcohol and cocaine
  • Attempted to control and isolate victim
  • Cut her while holding a knife
  • Pulled her back onto a sofa as she tried to flee

The court was told that Davidson has sought mental health support while in custody. His defence argued he was beginning to show insight into the harm he caused.

Judge James Adkin sentenced Davidson to three years in prison and stated:

“The risk you present in the community needs to be carefully managed.”

It was advised that he be housed away from the Cleator Moor area on his release.

Stay vigilant. Abuse often escalates. No one should feel unsafe in their own home.
