A rapist who subjected his victim to a “prolonged and appalling” campaign of abuse has been jailed for 18 years.
Habibul Haque, 44, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court today, Friday October 17, after being found guilty of multiple counts of rape and sexual offences following a trial earlier this month.
Haque was sentenced for four counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and controlling and coercive behaviour.
The offences, which occurred against a woman aged in her 20s in St Helens, were first reported to police in March this year and Haque was charged and convicted following a complex investigation.
As well as a prison sentence, Haque has also been placed on the Sex Offender’s Register for life and given an indefinite restraining order.
