❌DAVID JOHN REYNOLDS – DORSET❌
David Reynolds jailed for repeated breaches of child protection order
A man from Yeovil, Somerset, has been handed a prison sentence after repeatedly violating a court order designed to restrict his contact with children.
David John Reynolds, 35, of Goldcroft, Yeovil, admitted to multiple breaches of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) when he appeared at Taunton Crown Court.
False identity and predatory contact
The court heard Reynolds created a false identity and background to gain the trust of a family with children, becoming “obsessed” with one young member. He frequently visited their home and bought gifts for the children — actions which, while not constituting direct sexual contact, amounted to serious breaches of his SHPO.
Reynolds was also seen in photographs with children at an animal centre, another violation of the strict conditions imposed upon him following a 2014 conviction.
Judge Paul Cook told the court that the behaviour began just weeks after Reynolds had completed a suspension period for an earlier breach, describing the pattern of conduct as “predatory.”
Sentence
Reynolds admitted to the breaches and was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison. Judge Cook said: “This was a very serious and persistent breach against a backdrop of you lying about your name and identity. It was predatory contact.”
Recent update
After serving part of his sentence, Reynolds was released but has since been returned to custody for further breaches of his probation conditions.
Probation officers reported that he had:
• Driven a vehicle despite never holding a licence and without insurance.
• Stayed overnight at the home of vulnerable adults without authorisation from probation or social services.
• Used social media platforms including Snapchat and Kik under a false identity, posing as an 18-year-old from Dorset.
It is alleged he sent indecent images of other men, falsely claiming they were of himself, in order to obtain sexual images and money.
Reynolds is understood to have links to the Weymouth and Bournemouth areas of Dorset.
Safeguarding
The case highlights the challenges of managing high-risk offenders once released from custody. Judge Cook emphasised the continuing need for robust monitoring to protect children and vulnerable people from manipulation and exploitation.
