2021 –
Controlling Leeds thug Billy Barker-Holden, 23, subjected his pregnant partner to months of domestic abuse, coercion, and violence — and has had his original jail sentence extended after being deemed too lenient.
He moved into the victim’s home and quickly became aggressive and controlling, especially when he couldn’t access cannabis. Over five months, Barker-Holden:
- Controlled what she wore and banned her from wearing makeup
- Forced her to leave her phone downstairs when she went upstairs
- Isolated her from friends and neighbours
- Threw drinks at her, including a full bottle of Coca-Cola at her stomach while she was pregnant
- Prevented her from going to A&E when she began bleeding
- Grabbed her by the throat, making her unable to breathe
He also locked doors to stop her from leaving, punched holes in the walls, and on one occasion threatened to give her a “Chelsea smile” with a knife. During a violent outburst, he crushed her against a wall and fractured her collarbone.
Despite apologising and promising to seek anger management, the abuse continued. He punched her in the eye and nose, causing bruising and swelling, and constantly made threats, saying, “If I can’t have you, no one can.”
He was originally sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm and coercive control. However, due to the severity and repeated nature of his attacks, the sentence was reviewed and increased to three years by the Court of Appeal.
This was not his first offence of violence against a partner. A restraining order was also issued to protect the victim.
