Benjamin Phillip Wylie, of Nottingham, subjected the individual to physical and emotional abuse, including controlling and narcissistic behaviour. He reportedly assaulted the victim by beating and strangling them, and at one point locked them inside the house by removing their keys from the front door to prevent escape.

During the assault, he was allegedly on a phone call with his ex-partner. He also restricted the victim’s ability to use the toilet in private, only allowing them to go if he could watch. While the victim was crying and attempting to use the toilet, he remained on FaceTime, further exacerbating the distress.
