❌BENJAMIN GRAY – SWANSEA❌
Teacher convicted after being caught with thousands of child abuse images – children as young as 2 being raped.
A Swansea teacher has been convicted after police discovered a large collection of illegal images of children on his electronic devices. Many of the files had not previously been identified by UK authorities.
Swansea Crown Court heard that Benjamin Gray had been accessing harmful online material for more than a decade. Police executed a search warrant at his home on October 2 last year, seizing several devices, including a laptop where the unlawful images were first found.
The 57-year-old was arrested and questioned but declined to answer police inquiries. He was released on bail while specialists examined all the seized equipment.
Investigators ultimately found 4,383 unlawful images across a phone, hard drive and laptop, spanning Categories A, B and C. More than 1,200 of the images were considered “visually unique,” meaning they were previously unknown to UK law enforcement. Officers also discovered evidence that Gray had been visiting websites associated with illegal content since around 2013.
At the time of the offences, Gray was employed as a teacher at Penyrheol Comprehensive School in Swansea.
Benjamin Charles Deuchars Gray, of Eastbourne Grove in Sketty, previously admitted three counts of possessing indecent images of children. He had no prior convictions.
After applying credit for his guilty plea, the court imposed a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, along with a requirement to participate in rehabilitation activities. Gray must also register as a sex offender for 10 years and will be subject to a sexual offences prevention order for the same duration.
A spokesperson for Penyrheol Comprehensive School said Gray was immediately suspended once the allegations became known and has not returned to the school. They confirmed that no pupils were involved.
According to Education Workforce Wales, he has been ineligible for registration since December 20, 2024, and is currently subject to an interim suspension order.
